Closing Your Account
How to permanently close your mctx account, including pre-closure requirements, what data is retained, and how to export your data before closing.
Account closure is permanent and cannot be undone. Before you close your account, read this guide carefully to understand what happens to your data, your Apps, and your subscribers.
Before You Close
mctx requires you to resolve four things before closing your account:
1. Delete Apps with Active Subscribers
You cannot close your account while any of your Apps have active subscribers. You must delete those Apps first.
Go to your Apps page and delete each App that has active subscribers. Apps with zero subscribers can be deleted as part of the closure process automatically, but Apps with active subscribers require the standard 24-hour wind-down or emergency deletion before account closure is allowed.
2. Resolve Pending Payouts
If you have payouts in transit, wait until they settle before closing. mctx cannot close accounts with unresolved payout activity. Check your payout status at Settings → Payouts.
3. Resolve Pending Stripe Disputes
If your payout account has open disputes in a needs_response or warning_needs_response state, you must resolve them before closing your account. Log in to your payout account dashboard to view and respond to any pending disputes. Account closure is blocked until all disputes are resolved or withdrawn.
4. Resolve Pending Skipped Transfers
If any of your Apps were suspended due to a lapsed payout account, you may have pending skipped transfers — revenue that could not be paid out during the suspension. These must resolve before you can close your account: either via transfer-on-recovery when your payout account is reinstated, or automatically after 120 days when affected subscribers are refunded. Check your payout status for any pending skipped transfers before proceeding.
How to Close Your Account
Dashboard → Settings → Danger Zone → Close Account
- Navigate to app.mctx.ai/usr/settings
- Scroll to the Danger Zone section
- Click Close Account
- Review the confirmation — it shows any blockers that must be resolved first
- If no blockers exist, confirm your decision
Once confirmed, your account enters the closure process immediately.
Export Your Data First
You can download a copy of your mctx account data at any time before closing.
Dashboard → Settings → Download Your Data
The export includes:
- Your profile information
- Server configurations and history
- Subscription records
- Usage aggregates
- Notification preferences
The download is a CSV file. Export before closing — data is not retrievable after account closure.
What Happens When You Close
Account closure happens in two stages.
Immediate (at closure)
When you confirm account closure:
- All active subscriptions to your Apps are canceled immediately
- Subscribers are notified that your Apps are no longer available
- Your Apps are taken offline and removed from discovery
- Your login access is revoked
- Active session tokens are cleared immediately
Within 30 Days (data deletion)
Personal data associated with your account is permanently deleted within 30 days of closure:
- Your profile (name, email, GitHub connection)
- Server configurations and environment variables
- Subscription history tied to your identity
Three days before deletion, mctx sends a final reminder email to give you a last opportunity to contact support if the closure was done in error.
What Is Retained
Anonymized Financial Records (6 Years)
mctx retains anonymized financial records for tax compliance purposes for 6 years after account closure. Your personal identity is removed and records cannot be linked back to you.
These records are required by law (IRC §6001) and exist only as aggregate financial data for accounting and tax purposes.
Closure Is Permanent
There is no grace period and no undo. Once you confirm account closure:
- Your account cannot be restored
- Your Apps cannot be recovered
- Your data export is your only copy
If you closed your account by mistake, contact support@mctx.ai immediately. Recovery may not be possible, but contact us as soon as possible.
Frequently Asked Questions
What happens to my subscribers?
All active subscriptions to your Apps are canceled immediately when you close your account. Subscribers are notified and stop being charged. Subscribers on metered billing are only charged for usage up to the point of cancellation.
What about payouts I'm owed?
Payouts for usage already incurred are processed on the standard payout schedule before your account is fully closed. Closing your account does not forfeit payouts already in transit.
Can I reuse my App slugs?
No. After account closure, your Apps are taken offline and their slugs enter a 7-day cooling-off period before they can be claimed by anyone else. This prevents confusion for subscribers who may have cached credentials or bookmarks pointing to the old slug.
Will my GitHub repository be affected?
No. Closing your mctx account does not affect your GitHub repositories in any way. Only mctx infrastructure and account data are removed.
Can I reopen my account?
No. Account closure is permanent. If you want to use mctx again after closing, you would need to sign up as a new user.
